What is a Tuba?
Although the tuba is the largest and lowest sounding brass instrument and we have students of all size be successful on the tuba. The Tuba is held in the player's lap, so while it may appear to be overly large for some it is very easy to hold onto! Characteristics Needed Tuba players need a large lung capacity to be successful. While the size of a student doesn't matter, students with a longer torso will help them reach the mouthpiece while the tuba rests on their lap or legs. What role does the Tuba play in band? The tuba provides the foundation for the band and requires that players are self-motivated. Tubas are found in many performing groups such as concert bands, marching bands and orchestras. In high school, the tuba is replaced in marching band with the sousaphone. Other Details The Tuba is an instrument that is provided by the school for a single $40 deposit to cover cleaning and maintenance. Each student will receive TWO tubas for the price of one, one to keep at home and one to stay at school. No instrument to take back and forth! Students are required to purchase their own mouthpieces. |
