This is in no way required of the students, however the individualized attention these teachers provide has proven to be invaluable year after year in the success of our students. These teachers have worked with us for years and are truly amazing people, our students have always enjoyed working with them!
These teachers will be working out of Lake Ridge High School through the summer. Once the school year begins, they will visit our campus to work with students who sign up for lessons either during their band class or after school. Details on the program, the fee, and the contact information of the lesson teachers are found by clicking the button below. Simply reach out to the teacher listed for your student’s instrument to get started. Practice Practice PracticePractice is the key to success in any activity, particularly in band. We learn A LOT in class but the only way it will be remembered and truly understood is through practice time at home, on your own.
Concepts are learned in class but understood in personal practice time. Students should be spending time as often as possible (15-20 a day would ideal) playing their instrument. this not only helps to improve their playing but also build the crucial muscle strength needed to play well. Weekends and vacations are a time to relax but please don't take all that time off from your instrument! Play every few days at least to keep that muscle at retain the concepts we worked so hard on building! Instrument CareStudents have been shown basic care and handling techniques for their instrument. All of which, if done properly and at regular intervals, will keep the instrument working and out of the repair shop!
Some things to think about for: Flutes 1) Swab the inside of the instrument immediately EVERY time you are done playing 2) Do not store anything in the case besides the instrument 3) Occasionally check over the instrument for loose screws Clarinets, Oboes, Bassoons, Saxophones 1) Swab the inside of the instrument immediately EVERY time you are done playing 2) Occasionally check over the instrument for loose screws 3) Apply cork grease to the corks, do not let them dry out! 4) Always take off the reed when done playing 5) Saxes never store the instrument with the neck strap still attached All Brass Instruments 1) Oil the valves and grease the slides as needed, all should move smoothly 2) Always remove the mouthpiece when done playing 3) If you believe something is stuck, do not use a wrench, screwdriver, etc. to move it. Bring it to us, we will help. 4) Empty all condensation from inside the instrument before putting it away 5) Occasionally give the instrument a bath as shown by Mr. Galvan |
