What is a Trombone?
The Trombone is played by vibrating your lips against the mouthpiece to produce the sound. The notes are then changed by varying the lip pressure and moving a slide back and forth. The slide is not marked or notched and players rely on their ears and memory to tell if they are in the correct location. Characteristics Needed Trombone players come in all shapes and sizes and do not need long arms to be successful. A slight overbite is acceptable, while an extreme underbite would hinder success. Students with good listening skills show strength in Trombone. What role does the Trombone play in band? The trombone can participate in many different types of musical groups. It is found in marching bands, orchestras, concert bands and jazz bands. Along with the euphonium and tuba, the trombone provides the foundation of the band, and will occasionally get to play melodies. Other Details The trombone is a rental instrument that is not provided by the school. |
