This is a chance for students to become part of a long standing tradition of excellence by becoming a part of the band program at Mary Lillard Intermediate School. Everyone is starting from the beginning so no experience is necessary.
Who: 5th grade students who are interested in choosing Band as their elective during their 6th grade year at Lillard.
What:Interested students will have the opportunity to try all of the band instruments with the help of a band director. We will help guide each student to the instrument that they will be most successful at playing and will enjoy playing.
How: Many factors go into choosing the best instrument, including physical characteristics such as hand size and height. We want you to choose the instrument you will be most successful with!
Please note that certain instruments are very limited either due to instrument availability or to size restrictions. These instruments include Saxophone, French Horn, and Percussion among others. Students will be placed on a first come, first served basis. Once these instruments fill up, they will not be available for anyone who may try out afterwards.
There are three nights to choose from: March 5, March 20, and March 22 (Percussion will not be available to try on March 22)
**Each time slot has limited availability, so the time slots are on a first come, first served basis. A Parent or Guardian MUST be present!**
A Note about trying Percussion (Drums, Mallet Instruments, etc): If your student is interested in playing percussion, a Pre-Screening assessment will be done to determine eligibility. Email Mr. Beason at ChrisBeason@misdmail.org to arrange to have your student get the Pre-Screening done. Only those who have done the percussion pre-screening may try the percussion instruments on the instrument choice night and have that as a potential choice!
Come out and support our Lillard, Danny Jones and Lake Ridge Percussionists in their joint performance this Thursday, February 22!
Parents and friends are invited to come and enjoy the music being performed. Parents – this is a great opportunity for you to see what types of things your student is getting in to.
**UPDATE** The concert will begin at 7 PM in the Lake Ridge High School Performing Arts Center! We ask the performers to be there by 6:30 in their Band Shirt, Blue Jeans, and Athletic Shoes.

Parents, family, and friends are cordially invited to attend the contest! This is a great opportunity to hear your child show off what they have learned this year in band.

Date:March 3, 2018
Time: The contest runs between 8 AM and 3 PM but each student will only perform for a 6 minute time slot of their choice. They are not obligated to stay the rest of the time.
Dress:Professional clothing (Boys: slacks or khaki pants, button down shirt, and optional tie. Girls: dress pants, dress, shirt, or blouse. All must fit in MISD dress code policy. No jeans or t-shirts please!)
Requirements: Students must be academically eligible according to UIL rules based on the 4th six weeks report card (as outlined in the band handbook), and not receive a signing resulting in AC between January 9 and March 2.
In order to be successful in any activity, practice must be done. The more you practice, the better you will become.
Each student has a practice record that should be filled out and turned in the first school day they are present each week. Practice each day is the most ideal scenario but we understand that life happens and sometimes that can't happen. That's OK! As long as the total minutes we ask for is done by the end of the week we are happy. Please don't try to practice all the minutes at once as the muscles in your mouth may not be ready for that and bad habits will form!
Lost your Practice Record? Print out the one below to use temporarily and we'll get you a new one in class.
